Joshua 3-4New International Version (NIV)
Crossing the Jordan
Early in the morning Joshua and all the Israelites set out from Shittimand went to the Jordan, where they camped before crossing over. After three days the officers went throughout the camp, giving orders to the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the Levitical priests carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. But keep a distance of about two thousand cubits[a] between you and the ark; do not go near it.”
Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lordwill do amazing things among you.”
Joshua said to the priests, “Take up the ark of the covenant and pass on ahead of the people.” So they took it up and went ahead of them.
And the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I will begin to exalt you in the eyes of all Israel, so they may know that I am with you as I was with Moses.Tell the priests who carry the ark of the covenant: ‘When you reach the edge of the Jordan’s waters, go and stand in the river.’”
Joshua said to the Israelites, “Come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God. 10 This is how you will know that the living God is among you and that he will certainly drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites. 11 See, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth will go into the Jordan ahead of you. 12 Now then, choose twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one from each tribe. 13 And as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the Lord—the Lord of all the earth—set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap.
14 So when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant went ahead of them. 15 Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge, 16 the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heapa great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (that is, the Dead Sea) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho. 17 The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord stopped in the middle of the Jordan and stood on dry ground, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground.
When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan, the Lord said to Joshua, “Choose twelve men from among the people, one from each tribe, and tell them to take up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, from right where the priests are standing, and carry them over with you and put them down at the place where you stay tonight.
So Joshua called together the twelve men he had appointed from the Israelites, one from each tribe, and said to them, “Go over before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.”
So the Israelites did as Joshua commanded them. They took twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, as the Lord had told Joshua; and they carried them over with them to their camp, where they put them down. Joshua set up the twelve stones that had been[b] in the middle of the Jordan at the spot where the priests who carried the ark of the covenant had stood. And they are there to this day.
10 Now the priests who carried the ark remained standing in the middle of the Jordan until everything the Lord had commanded Joshua was done by the people, just as Moses had directed Joshua. The people hurried over, 11 and as soon as all of them had crossed, the ark of theLord and the priests came to the other side while the people watched.12 The men of Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh crossed over, ready for battle, in front of the Israelites, as Moses had directed them.13 About forty thousand armed for battle crossed over before the Lord to the plains of Jericho for war.
14 That day the Lord exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they stood in awe of him all the days of his life, just as they had stood in awe of Moses.
15 Then the Lord said to Joshua, 16 “Command the priests carrying the ark of the covenant law to come up out of the Jordan.”
17 So Joshua commanded the priests, “Come up out of the Jordan.”
18 And the priests came up out of the river carrying the ark of the covenant of the Lord. No sooner had they set their feet on the dry ground than the waters of the Jordan returned to their place and ran at flood stage as before.
19 On the tenth day of the first month the people went up from the Jordan and camped at Gilgal on the eastern border of Jericho. 20 And Joshua set up at Gilgal the twelve stones they had taken out of the Jordan. 21 He said to the Israelites, “In the future when your descendants ask their parents, ‘What do these stones mean?’ 22 tell them, ‘Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.’ 23 For the Lord your God dried up the Jordan before you until you had crossed over. The Lord your God did to the Jordan what he had done to the Red Sea[c] when he dried it up before us until we had crossed over. 24 He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the Lord is powerful and so that you might always fear the Lord your God.

God will always fulfil His purpose with or without you.

One of the keys to spiritual success is we learn to be grateful/thankful.

1 Thessalonians 5:18New International Version (NIV)
18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Give thanks to God for the things that we already have.

God will release greater blessings.

Our God is a covenant keeping God.

God made a promise and He will deliver from generations to generations.

The book of Joshua is about possessing the promised labd and distributing it amongst God's people.

To receive spiritual blessings, learn to stand in the gap for them.

God is into breaking barriers.

God will bless exceedingly abundantly.

Romans 8:36-39
36 As it is written:

“For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

As New Testament believers, we are more than conquerors.

3 things about God:
1) God is a promise-keeping God. God keeps His promises.

Believe in the fullness of God's power and the Spirit of God.

Like John Wesley, always second the motion of the Holy Spirit.

Listen to the Spirit of God. He is always right.

Galatians 5:25New International Version (NIV)
25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

He delivers His promises.

He does not forget the promise He gave to Abraham.

The nurture of children and grandchildren must come from you in the family.

Every day living without hearing the voice of God is a lousy day.

Ask God for a breakthrough.

Live to fulfil God's purpose and design.

2) God is a wonders-performing God.

If you want breakthrough, there is a need for consecration.

The anointing comes when we obey God and follow Him.

Example of D. L. Moody. He had lousy English but he went on to become one of the greatest evangelist.

Make an offering of your life to God and God will give a breakthrough.

Consecration means "God, this life is fully for You."

Everything must be patterned after the Word of God.

With God, barriers are opportunities for breakthroughs.

3) God is a sovereign and purposeful God.

I inherit all that He intends me to inherit.

"My foot is to do the will of Him who sends Me."

You do not set conditions before God.

John Wesley: "The world is my parish."

In every season of life, we need God to cross the Jordan.

Without Faith, it is Impossible to Please God

Pr Kenneth Chin

Faith is central to the life of a Christian.

Hebrews 11:6New International Version (NIV)
6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Without faith, it is impossible to please God.

As Christians, we live to please God.

Without faith, it is impossible to please God.

But he who comes to God must believe that He is; He is the rewarder of those who dilligently seek Him.

Faith and expectation are married.

God is no respecter of man. He does not reserve His healing only for some.

Expect more because God moves by our expectations.

It is not the magic that is in man.

Faith without expectation is not faith.

If expectation determines faith, what determines expectation?

Perception determines expectation determines reception.

God is very rarely working on our expectation. God usually works on our perception.

God is always working on my perception.

God knows all my needs even before I ask Him.

He is bigger.

In every level of faith encounter, He is after the way we see Him. Nothing is too difficult for Him.

Can He come through or not? Does He really care?

Yes, He does.

If God has something better for you, and you settle, then that's wrong.

God provides. He always provides.

Luke 24:13-35New International Version (NIV)

On the Road to Emmaus

13 Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles[a] from Jerusalem. 14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. 15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them;16 but they were kept from recognizing him.

17 He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”

They stood still, their faces downcast. 18 One of them, named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”

19 “What things?” he asked.

“About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people.20 The chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; 21 but we had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. 22 In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to the tomb early this morning 23 but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. 24 Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.”

25 He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

28 As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. 29 But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.

30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him,and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”

33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34 and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” 35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.

Learn to look at each other differently.

Let's begin with each other.

1 Corinthians 2:9King James Version (KJV)
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

Thank God for what you have and work with what you have.

Ezekiel 37:1-14New International Version (NIV)

The Valley of Dry Bones

37 The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones.2 He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. 3 He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”

I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.”

4 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! 5 This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath[a] enter you, and you will come to life. 6 I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”

7 So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. 8 I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.

9 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath;prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’” 10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.

11 Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’12 Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel.13 Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. 14 I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.’”

Ezekiel is a godly man waiting to be ordained as a priest in the temple.

The temple is destroyed. The people is exiled. The situation is hopeless.

God has a higher purpose for Israel.

Today, many people (1 in 7) are displaced from their homeland.

End of 2016, globally, 65 million people are forcefully displaced.

Migrants in Malaysia is about 6 million.
Refugees 150,000.
Asylum seekers 50,000.

There is a voice, like the call from Macedonia.

They say, "Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off..." (Ezekiel 37:11)

Can these bones live?

Do you see dried bones in our midst? Can you hear their cries?

Everything begins with our perspective.

What is God really saying?

Reverse Mission - Disciple nations at our doorsteps.

Every believer is a missionary/disciple-maker.

Church on the move/church without walls.

Missional movements - They are on transit; they come and they go. When they go back, they can plant church there.

God told Ezekiel to prophesy to the dry bones. They need to hear the Word of God.

Prophesy/Bring the Word of God to them:
- Engage them
- Encounter them
- Empower them

Engage communities through:
- Meeting a need
- Sowing a seed of love
- Building a bridge
- Facilitating an encounter with Christ

Education is one way to transform communities.

Luke 10:6New King James Version (NKJV)

And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on it; if not, it will return to you.

Purpose:
God
- Preserves them
- Prepares them
- Promotes them

God has a future for you. God loves you.
