Father's Day - a Day to Give and a Day to Receive

Luke 6:36-38

36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Matthew 7:12

12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Some of the best gifts are held in the heart, not in the hands.

Attitudes, expressions to other people.

1) Forgiveness:

the value far exceeds the cost. Unforgiveness is a heavy weight to carry.

Forgiveness is the first step to reconciliation.

The wrongs that we have done and the wrongs done to us are nailed there at the Cross.

Reconciliation is not a goal, it is a gate.

Often we need a change of heart to reach another heart.

A Prayer of Ignatius

Take Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, and my entire will, all that I have and possess. Thou hast given all to me. To Thee, O lord, I return it. All is Thine, dispose of it wholly according to Thy will. Give me Thy love and thy grace, for this is sufficient for me.

We yield our liberty to God - our right to be mad, to hold a grudge, to get even, to ignore.

We yield our memory to God - our memory of the offences can imprison us as we replay it in our minds.

We yield our understanding to God - We can, and do, misunderstand. We need God's light.

We yield our will to God - what we want to do and what we will do.

Reconciliation is not always possible. But by our attitude, we make it possible.

Romans 12:18New King James Version (NKJV)

18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.

2) Appreciation:

We appreciate people for who they are and for what they do. It makes a person feel valued.

3) Time:

Giving time to others.
There is no substitute for time. There is nothing in giving honour and attention to the persons that matter in our lives.

4) Help:

What can I do that will make your life easier and more enjoyable.

5) Empathy:

When we try to understand how others feel, we become less judgmental and more caring. Caring people consult, advise and contact.

6) Respect:

Earning respect is better than demanding respect. Be respected for who I am, not for position. God, make me real and honest and people can respect that in a very genuine way.

Every father, every child, needs the Heavenly Father.
