The Purpose of the Holy Spirit is Power

Acts 1:4-5 New King James Version (NKJV)
The Holy Spirit Promised
4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

The baptism of the Holy Spirit was a unique event where He imparts His power to us.

This is what needs to happen today.

We need a new and fresh encounter with the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God.

There is much more to it than speaking in tongues.

The purpose of the Holy Spirit upon us is power.

1) It authorises us to exercise power and authority.

It authorises us to operate in power and authority.

Acts 1:6 New King James Version (NKJV)
6 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”

The disciples were thinking about something else--the cost of going and reaching the world for Jesus, the structures and set ups, etc.

Acts 1:8 New King James Version (NKJV)
8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be [a]witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Jesus says, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you."

Hebrews 2:3-4 New King James Version (NKJV)
3 how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, 4 God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts[a] of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?

It is the will of God that we not only call ourselves disciples of Crist but also receive the power of the Holy Spirit.

We have the power to destroy the work of the devil.

When we don't demonstrate what we preach, we are illegal witnesses.

2) It authorises us to demonstrate the power of the cross.

1 Corinthians 2:4-5 New King James Version (NKJV)
4 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of [a]human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

There is nothing more powerful than to preach the finished work of the cross. The cross of Jesus Christ is finished so that it has power that causes bondages to be broken and the dead to be raised and men and women can serve the true and living God.

We are saved by grace through faith.

It is the Holy Spirit upon us that we can see souls saved.

We need the Holy Spirit because it gives us authority to bring healing and deliverance.

The power of the cross must be demonstrated but God left it to us to prove that Jesus Christ is alive and He can set people free.

Acts 10:38 New King James Version (NKJV)
38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

Acts 2:22 New King James Version (NKJV)
22 “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know—

Until you have been baptised with the Holy Spirit, you are certified and approved.

God wants us to be credible witness for Jesus Christ.

Jesus commanded them that they must stay in Jerusalem.

God gave us Jesus as the saviour that we might have salvation.

God gave us the Holy Spirit that we might have power.

Acts 3:19 New King James Version (NKJV)
19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,

They were fiercely independent from God.

They had to repent for their self-righteousness, greed, lust and rebellion.

They couldn't let go of what they've got.

God wants you to experience the Holy Spirit.

And He wants to keep filling us because we leak all the time.

We need to submit ourselves to the Word of God and His voice.

We need to seek and be hungry.

Repent from the independent spirit. Repent from your lack of desire.

So that the times of refreshing--bringing back energy, vigour and strength--may come from the presence of God.

The anointing of the Holy Spirit gives you the credibility and credentials to declare that "My God is alive!"

If God can use ordinary people, God is ready to use you.

John 7:37-39 New King James Version (NKJV)
The Promise of the Holy Spirit
37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those [a]believing in Him would receive; for the [b]Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

But today we have it!
