Revival Brings New and Fresh Encounter with Jesus

Rev Dr Colin Hurt

John 13:23
23 Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.

John had an intimate relationship with Jesus.

John had an encounter with the human form of Jesus.

Revelations 1:17
17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:

Encounter with an ascended, resurrected, glorified Jesus.

Most of us have the first encounter. We need to have a fresh encounter with the glorified Jesus.

We need an encounter that brings revival for the glorified Jesus.

Revelation 1:12-13
12 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;

13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.

New and fresh encounter in the midst of the church that we're in.

Jesus ascended and took glorified humanity - the sinful human race - with him.

We have a high priest in heaven.

Not only is He a high priest, He is also the king of kings and lord of lords.

Jesus is in control. My King is in control of Malaysia. He never fails.

Revelation 1:14
14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;

We will see the glory of Jesus.

One thing about revival - the secrets of man's heart are laid bare. Jesus sees.

Jesus talks about the good things. He sees what we cannot see ourselves.

He is coming. Revival is coming.

Revelation 1:15
15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.

Christ is strong and steadfast and He can trample down the spiritual foes.

Bride of Christ

Rushing waters refer to volume. He speaks to His church with a loud voice but we are not listening. We're too busy with other things that we miss His voice.

When we have this revival encounter with Jesus, we will hear His voice clearly.

Men and women are different. When men are concentrating on something, they actually go deaf.

Revelation 1:16
16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two edged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

Seven stars refer to the leadership of the seven churches. They are sustained and will be sustained by the hand of God.

Revelation 2:16
16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

He will attack the churches that are not living right.

Revelation 19:15
15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

He will attack nations that are Godless.

Jesus has to deal with sin.

Jesus is radiant within the church and outside the church as well. He will move among the unconverted.

We will experience revival in a new way.

Jesus is in control. He is supreme. We will experience the revelation of the purpose of Jesus.

When revival comes, His purpose is a revived church in our life, in our church, in our community.

Revelation 2:1, 4
Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

First church-
Stopped showing love.

Revelation 2:5
5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

Repent. Start doing things that we did at first, motivated by love.

Revelation 2:12
12 And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges;

Second church-
Actively being involved with idolatory and immorality. Greed, covetousness. Sexual immorality - homosexuality.

Revelation 2:16
16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Jesus is coming to clean house, to deal with everything in the church that is not supposed to be there.

Revelation 2:18, 20
18 And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;

20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

Third church-
Tolerating and not doing anything about anything that is evil

Revelation 2:22
22 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.

Not tolerate anything that defiles the bride of Christ. Jesus will deal with it.

Revelation 3:1
And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.

Fourth church-
Great music, great teaching. Looks alive but actually dead.

Revelation 3:4
4 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.

Remember the teachings and obey the truth that we have been taught.

Revelation 3:14-15
14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;

15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.

Fifth church-
Lukewarm Christian make Jesus vomit.

Revelation 3:19
19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

Be passionate.

Addendum:

The seven churches are:

(1) Ephesus (Revelation 2:1-7) - the church that had forsaken its first love (2:4).

(2) Smyrna (Revelation 2:8-11) - the church that would suffer persecution (2:10).

(3) Pergamum (Revelation 2:12-17) - the church that needed to repent (2:16).

(4) Thyatira (Revelation 2:18-29) - the church that had a false prophetess (2:20).

(5) Sardis (Revelation 3:1-6) - the church that had fallen asleep (3:2).

(6) Philadelphia (Revelation 3:7-13) - the church that had endured patiently (3:10).

(7) Laodicea (Revelation 3:14-22) - the church with the lukewarm faith (3:16).
