1 Samuel 17:38-42 New King James Version (NKJV)
38 So Saul clothed David with his [a]armor, and he put a bronze helmet on his head; he also clothed him with a coat of mail. 39 David fastened his sword to his armor and tried to walk, for he had not tested them. And David said to Saul, “I cannot walk with these, for I have not tested them.” So David took them off.

40 Then he took his staff in his hand; and he chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag, in a pouch which he had, and his sling was in his hand. And he drew near to the Philistine. 41 So the Philistine came, and began drawing near to David, and the man who bore the shield went before him. 42 And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained[b] him; for he was only a youth, ruddy and good-looking.

Saul gives Davis his cutting edge armour. But killing the bear and the lion was not the same as killing Goliath. And the armour bogged him down. As long as David thought like Saul that he needed that armour, he would be bogged down. He would not be dealing with God's history, His dealings and trajectory for his life. Instead, he would be going with what everybody thinks he needed to go up against Goliath. He would be going with the technology needed at that time--a technology that he had no history with and a technology that's not proven.

The question then would be, "Would the stones and sling be enough to fight Goliath?"

Later, the armour and the sling would clash again because Saul would be David's enemy and Saul's armour would clash again with David's history.

The unique history that you have and the unique way in which God has been leading you is part of the unique and distinct contribution you made to the world i.e. the way that you had been brought up and the spiritual ingredients that God had put upon you that would be enough.

And David had to content with Goliath with some of that history.

1 Samuel 17:43-47 New King James Version (NKJV)

43 So the Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. 44 And the Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!”

45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. 47 Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.”

In the name of Jesus means "I have given up my rights and surrendered my abilities and everything. I am no longer in Goliath's words. I am in Jesus' words and in His presence."

For that to happen, you have to be prepared to be a bit narrow because the breadth of everything that's in the world is going to distract you. You may know the truth but the morality of that truth is a bit thin.

"I need to be in it so much and so compelling in me than the words of Goliath. Because I am a special kind of person that's been set apart for God. And with that, I bear the reproach of Jesus."

When you get into the characteristics and the Godness of God and you give yourself to Him and die to Him and lose every coolness that you have, you are physically, emotionally and physiognomically in Christ and you are full of His reproach and His presence.

You will function from the flesh that's been immersed in God.

As you wait upon the Lord, He quickens you and He puts all that knowledge in you like fire. You are known by it, eaten up by it and consumed by it. It doesn't sound like your thoughts; it sounds like your bones and your blood. When we talk about being seated with Him in the heavenly places and taking possession of our inheritance in Christ, that is an inheritance that is actualised. You can't do it based on your brains or your Bible knowledge.

The Word of God is profound and is full of revelations. The river of God is full of water (Psalm 65:9). The Word of God is full of God. There's so much power, density and revelation.

When David was speaking the Word of God, he was speaking revelation that came out of being in Yahweh, the Lord of hosts.

In the long game, God calls us to hear such words and such words become substance in us. If you don't hear from the Lord, then you'll only be speaking scriptures that have not become real in your life yet and they are not more compelling and powerful than the threatening of Goliath.

1 Samuel 17:48-51 New King James Version (NKJV)

48 So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. 49 Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth. 50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. But there was no sword in the hand of David. 51 Therefore David ran and stood over the Philistine, took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him, and cut off his head with it.

And when the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.

It's hard for wait upon the silence, the non-hearing. Have courage to wait upon Him and point your heart towards God until something quickens your spirit. When it quickens your spirit, you will run to the battle line. If you're not ready, don't run. It's okay. Don't make yourself run to it. Wait until you're quickened and you will run to it. Your legs will take you there. The boldness will come.

We all have it. We have the Word of God with us. We have the Holy Spirit in us.

For David, the sling was enough to bring down Goliath. When he did that, he was in the zone of the Holy Spirit.

We are filled with knowledge and utterance (1 Corinthians 1:5). The spirit of knowledge is in us so that when we put ourselves in situations where we need that knowledge, it will come out.
