Jesus our Lamb Slain from the Foundation of the World

Pr Michael Koh
19-04-2019

Jesus was the Lamb that was slain before the foundation of the earth. His death was eternal and it applies to us.

When He carried upon Himself our sin and sorrow and He carried it eternally. He did it eternally.

The Cross is in every part of the Scriptures.

Mark 3 New King James Version (NKJV)
Healing on the Sabbath
3 And He entered the synagogue again, and a man was there who had a withered hand. 2 So they watched Him closely, whether He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might [a]accuse Him. 3 And He said to the man who had the withered hand, [b]“Step forward.” 4 Then He said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they kept silent. 5 And when He had looked around at them with anger, being grieved by the hardness of their hearts, He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored [c]as whole as the other. 6 Then the Pharisees went out and immediately plotted with the Herodians against Him, how they might destroy Him.

You see the crucifixion right there.

Jesus did not heal the withered hand just because He was God.

The Sabbath day was not healing day. On the Sabbath, He was not supposed to heal.

He had to walk into a trap that was set by the Pharisees.

In order for the man to be healed, Jesus had to take upon Himself the Cross.

Everyone was watching Him so that He could get into trouble.

Because of this miracle, He would be prosecuted.

The man's whole being is withered. He was considered by the Pharisees to have sinned.

Jesus comes to this very person to heal him.

For this man to be healed, he was going to get Jesus into serious trouble.

He would be breaking the law of the Pharisees.

The crucifixion began right here. All the healing, prosperity, setting free of shame, He took upon Himself and He walked into the trap.

Jesus willingly walked into your trap and my trap.

We live under the shadow of our past, sin and inadequacies. It is all withered and torn apart.

The deeper we understand the depth of His redemption and sacrifice, the greater we understand why He did that.

It's amazing how uninterested the Pharisees are of the miracle of God.

Jesus entered into the corridors of darkness and took upon Himself our brokenness, guilt and shame. He had to get under the torn in our flesh. Praise God for that. It would set in motion the trap and redemption that you and I can experience miraculously.

And He said, "Get up. Stretch out your hand. "

Isaiah 53:3-6 New King James Version (NKJV)
3 He is despised and [a]rejected by men,
A Man of [b]sorrows and acquainted with [c]grief.
And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him;
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

4 Surely He has borne our [d]griefs
And carried our [e]sorrows;
Yet we [f]esteemed Him stricken,
[g]Smitten by God, and afflicted.
5 But He was wounded[h] for our transgressions,
He was [i]bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes[j] we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the Lord [k]has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

Jesus carried it all for Himself.

John 19:16-18 New King James Version (NKJV)
16 Then he delivered Him to them to be crucified. Then they took Jesus [a]and led Him away.

The King on a Cross
17 And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha, 18 where they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the center.

Matthew 27:32 New King James Version (NKJV)
The King on a Cross
32 Now as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name. Him they compelled to bear His cross.

Jesus allowed the cross to crush. He let the full extent of the weight of the cross to crush Him and He stumbled and He needed Simon of Cyrene to carry it.

He even got cursed by fellow prisoners.

Our sin today is the sin that He carried. We are free because He carried it. It is the way the curse of sin was broken. He was eternal Son of God and He was crucified for eternity.

The reason why we talk about the crucifixion again and again is because of the fact that He is eternally the Crucified One.

Because Jesus identifies with our sin, so does He call us to follow Him.

The Cross speaks of death before the resurrection.

Jesus wants you to step forward.

You are in need of new life.

Today you are going to get your life from God.

The Cross is we dying with Him.

Romans 5:19 New King James Version (NKJV)
19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.

As the man with the withered hand stretched out his hand, his hand was restored in front of witnesses.

The Pharisees saw it.

John 11:17-44 New King James Version (NKJV)
I Am the Resurrection and the Life
17 So when Jesus came, He found that he had already been in the tomb four days. 18 Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about [a]two miles away. 19 And many of the Jews had joined the women around Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.

20 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met Him, but Mary was sitting in the house. 21 Now Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You.”

23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”

24 Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”

25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

27 She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”

Jesus and Death, the Last Enemy
28 And when she had said these things, she went her way and secretly called Mary her sister, saying, “The Teacher has come and is calling for you.” 29 As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly and came to Him. 30 Now Jesus had not yet come into the town, but [b]was in the place where Martha met Him. 31 Then the Jews who were with her in the house, and comforting her, when they saw that Mary rose up quickly and went out, followed her, [c]saying, “She is going to the tomb to weep there.”

32 Then, when Mary came where Jesus was, and saw Him, she fell down at His feet, saying to Him, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.”

33 Therefore, when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, He groaned in the spirit and was troubled. 34 And He said, “Where have you laid him?”

They said to Him, “Lord, come and see.”

35 Jesus wept. 36 Then the Jews said, “See how He loved him!”

37 And some of them said, “Could not this Man, who opened the eyes of the blind, also have kept this man from dying?”

Lazarus Raised from the Dead
38 Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. 39 Jesus said, “Take away the stone.”

Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.”

40 Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” 41 Then they took away the stone [d]from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. 42 And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.” 43 Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” 44 And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.”

If you keep your life for your own, there is no resurrection.

Jesus died for every part of you, including things that you feel ashamed that you are living and adjusting to that shame.

God says, "Today you are free."

Jesus carries all our burdens. Give it to Him one by one. Give Him everything.

Welcome Jesus into the darkness of your own soul.

God is enough for that place of our sin, shame and embarrassment.

Whatever the condition of our heart and finances and self-worth, give it all unto God so that I no longer have my own righteousness but the righteousness of Christ.

We understand that He loves us. He gave Himself for us. We are healed because He carried it upon Himself and willingly walked into the trap.

We welcome Jesus.
