A Man whose Heart Beats to God's Heart

Serving God will lead you to a successful life, both spiritually and in the comforts of this world.

Acts 13:22 New King James Version (NKJV)
22 And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, ‘I have found David[a] the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.’[b]

Acts 13:22 The Message (MSG)
22 After Saul had ruled forty years, God removed him from office and put King David in his place, with this commendation: ‘I’ve searched the land and found this David, son of Jesse. He’s a man whose heart beats to my heart, a man who will do what I tell him.’

After God's heart means always in sync and always connected with God.

Only David can feel God's heart and anger.

David was a small guy against Goliath. It is illogical for a smaller guy to run towards a man much bigger than himself.

Because he's a man after God's heart, David could feel God's anger in him.

For David, Saul was a bad king and father. And he was going to unfairly murder David because he was envious of him.

When he heard that Saul was dead, David grieved for Saul.

A man whose heart beats to God's heart means when God was sad, David was sad.

When God's heart was beating angrily, David was angry too.

When David was dancing during the time the ark was being brought into the kingdom, it was a big and formal event. Everyone was solemn. Except David. David was the only one who felt God's excitement that the ark was coming home to Jerusalem.

That's why God chose him as a leader.

Listen to what God is saying in our heart. We must connect to God.

But most of us connect to God only seasonally or periodically.

When people's prayers are met, they're gone.

David is defined by what he's done throughout his life.

Like David, don't be on fire just for a season or a period.

David can stand up to a God when ever and where he is.

1 Chronicles 29:10-12 New King James Version (NKJV)
David’s Praise to God
10 Therefore David blessed the Lord before all the assembly; and David said:

“Blessed are You, Lord God of Israel, our Father, forever and ever.
11 Yours, O Lord, is the greatness,
The power and the glory,
The victory and the majesty;
For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours;
Yours is the kingdom, O Lord,
And You are exalted as head over all.
12 Both riches and honor come from You,
And You reign over all.
In Your hand is power and might;
In Your hand it is to make great
And to give strength to all.

This had happened after David's eldest remaining son, Adonijah, who was very handsome and charismatic, led a coup d' etat against him.

How could he still praise God? Many of us could not stand betrayal.

This prayer is a prayer of offering. It was not an ordinary prayer.

In verses 1 to 9, he had made an offering to God. In verse 4, it was more than a hundred tonnes of finest gold and almost 240 tonnes of pure silver.

David could have said it was all from him. But instead he said wealth and honour was from God.

We are way below David's standard.

This was a show of wealth and power.

Despite the revolt, he gave the glory and honour to God.

Most of us go for the wealth. But not David.

1 Chronicles 29:13-14 New King James Version (NKJV)
13 “Now therefore, our God,
We thank You
And praise Your glorious name.
14 But who am I, and who are my people,
That we should be able to offer so willingly as this?
For all things come from You,
And [a]of Your own we have given You.

He was already 70 at that time.

When he became king, Saul had little wealth and power to pass down to him.

But at the age of 70, he had massive wealth and power.

David was a self made man but he always said he was a God made man.

"I know who I am. I'm not the first choice but I'm always there. Neither am I the smartest nor the most talented but I am available."

Ephesians 3:7 New King James Version (NKJV)
7 of which I became a minister according to the gift of the grace of God given to me by the effective working of His power.

A leader should understand that the position is a privilege. Every opportunity to serve is a privilege. Take every opportunity to do the best.

1 Chronicles 29:15 New King James Version (NKJV)
15 For we are [a]aliens and [b]pilgrims before You,
As were all our fathers;
Our days on earth are as a shadow,
And without hope.

He understood that time was limited. He knew he's nearing death.

Time is limited. If we never try, we'll never succeed. If we've never failed, we'll never succeed.

2 Chronicles 29:16-17 New King James Version (NKJV)
16 “O Lord our God, all this abundance that we have prepared to build You a house for Your holy name is from Your hand, and is all Your own. 17 I know also, my God, that You test the heart and have pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things; and now with joy I have seen Your people, who are present here to offer willingly to You.

As a leader, we should always examine our motives, our hearts till the end.

Do not serve for wealth, fame or people. Only serve God.

Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Stay on the road towards Christ.

Every cell group is a crusade--one disciple at a time.

Today God is looking for a man whose heart beats to God's heart. God is looking for a leader like David.

1 Peter 2:9 New King James Version (NKJV)
9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

God is looking for a royal priest, a man who is a king who is a priest, a royal priest like David who used all his talents and efforts to build a temple for God. He is looking for someone who gives all his desires to build God's kingdom through his prayer, ministry and everything.

Go build for Jesus.
